Anti-Money Laundering Policy
Montreal Casino checks who you are, where your money comes from and how it moves through your account. These checks keep crime off our floor and make sure your winnings reach you.
Understanding why we verify
Every dollar in play should be clean, and every player should be exactly who they say they are. We accept players only where it is legally permitted, and we follow Canadian requirements on age, identity checks and money laundering.
- Stop criminals from washing money through casino play.
- Block fraud, stolen cards and account takeovers.
- Keep minors off the floor.
- Make sure withdrawals land with the right person.
Verification is part of opening and running an account. It is not optional, and it applies to every player the same way.
Checking sanctions lists and political exposure
Every account goes through sanctions list screening, plus a check for ties to politically exposed persons: anyone in a senior public post today or in the past, for example a top politician, a judge or the head of a state body. The same checks cover their relatives and close associates.
- Screening runs when you sign up and again whenever the lists change.
- A confirmed match to a sanctions list means we cannot offer you our service.
- A politically exposed person may still play, but faces enhanced checks and closer monitoring, approved by senior management.
Keeping records and reporting
Records of identity checks, transactions and account activity are retained for as long as Canadian law demands. We hold them in secure storage, and only employees whose duties require it can view them.
- Where the law obliges us to, we notify the appropriate Canadian authorities of any suspicious transactions.
- We report large transactions wherever the law calls for it.
- We never inform a player when a report has been filed, because the law prohibits it.
Monitoring accounts over time
Verification is not a one-time stamp. Our systems watch activity on every account and flag patterns that do not fit.
- Deposits far above a player's usual level.
- Money deposited and withdrawn with barely any play in between.
- Several accounts sharing one payment method, device or address.
- Payments from accounts in another person's name.
- Frequent switching between payment methods.
A flag is not an accusation. It means a person on our team takes a closer look and may contact you for more information.
Wherever possible, withdrawals go back through a method you used to deposit. We pay out by Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Online Banking / Trustly or Bank Wire / Transfer, up to a maximum of C$20 000 per month. All amounts are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
Explaining your source of funds
When deposits grow large, or when your play changes sharply, we can request evidence of where your money comes from. Typical examples:
- A letter from your employer or your most recent payslips.
- Bank statements showing the funds arriving.
- Documents showing a property sale, an inheritance or an investment.
- Tax documents or business accounts if you are self-employed.
We use these documents only to confirm that the money is lawful and that your play fits your means. That second point matters to us too: it is part of keeping play safe.
Handling failed checks
If your identity cannot be verified, or the documents give us cause for concern, the account will not proceed.
- Deposits, play and withdrawals are paused while checks remain open.
- Documents still missing after our requests lead to closure of the account.
- Forged or altered documents lead to immediate closure.
- Where the law requires it, funds are held and reported.
- Lawful deposits go back, where possible, to the same method you paid with.
Checking identity and age
You play from 19. We check your identity and age ahead of any first deposit, and geolocation makes sure you are playing from somewhere we serve. We may ask for:
- Identity: a current, valid photo ID from a government, for instance a driver's licence or passport.
- Address: one of your utility bills or bank statements from recent months, with your name and the home address printed on it.
- Payment method: show that the e-wallet, bank account or card in use is yours. A statement issued by your bank does the job, and so does a screenshot of the account page inside your e-wallet. For cards, photograph the front and mask the middle digits.
- Selfie: a live photo of you holding your identity document, when we need to match face and document.
Documents need to be sharp, in full colour, not cropped and still valid. We check your name, address and date of birth on them against your account details. Every payment method has to be registered under the name on your account.
